Youth Programs

Strengthening our youth is a primary focus of the WCHC.   We sponsor educational groups, organize youth events, and provide programs to assist young people struggling with mental health and substance use disorders.
Tobacco-Free Teens is a Wilmington Middle School group that teaches students about the risks of tobacco use and vaping and involves them in activities to prevent tobacco and e-cig/vape use among their peers.
Text-A-Tip offers a free and confidential way for Wilmington teens to reach out for advice and help from a licensed counselor.  Middle and high school students can text “476-HELP” to 1-844-823-5323 at any time, 24/7/365, to get help with issues like anxiety, grief, bullying, substance use, and more.  Adults may also use the texting service to report concerns.

The CAT Crew is a Wilmington High School group that empowers members to make a positive impact on fellow students and the entire community.   Supported  by the WCHC, CAT Crew members receive training in prevention-related areas and plan activities to promote healthy behaviors, good decisions-making, and positive futures.
Each year, WCHC raises funds to send Wilmington youth to an annual leadership training conducted by the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute.  CGTI is an award-winning program that offers opportunities for teens around the state to learn about leadership, healthy choices, and working with others to create better communities.
