Our Purpose

The Wilmington Coalition for a Healthy Community is dedicated to making Wilmington a place where our children and youth can grow up happy, healthy, and safe.  

WCHC was founded in 2006 in response to the damage inflicted on local families by opioid and other drug overdoses.   Because substance abuse is a complex problem, the coalition has worked to create strong partnerships with other groups in the community.

WCHC is organized to help the community use proven strategies to keep young people healthy and substance-free, including:

• Educating about substance use and mental health
• Offering healthy and positive activities for children, youth and families
• Helping people get behavioral health services when they need them
• Advocating for changes that benefit community health
